10 reasons to convince your manager to move to async

Gone are the days when employees spent a third of the hours of their lives surrounded by coworkers, the people who you didn’t choose but ended up being part of your everyday routine.


Remote work, completely or partially, has been established in most tech and digital companies, thanks to or because of COVID-19 in an unseen accelerated experiment that sent all of us home. And, contrarily to what many companies and managers expected at the beginning of this sanitary crisis, results seem to be as effective or even more effective than in the workplace.

Employees have mostly expressed they want the choice and flexibility to work outside the office at least some of the time. But now that remote work is settled, there is still another problem: online meetings, which cause fatigue, are hard to follow, and interrupt employees’ deep work. Luckily there’s another, more human method that still allows us to be working remotely far from our colleagues. And that is async communication.

If your company is not adapted to this new work trend yet, here are 10 reasons to convince your manager to move async:


1.- Better performance from every employee

Working asynchronously allows each employee on the team to perform when they are most ready to perform, meaning most productive, instead of when they are required to conform to a schedule. One may be more mentally agile at 5am and not with the hours of 9am-17pm.


2.- It is less stressful.

Knowing that you have time to think about the best options and not having to answer instantaneously leads to better results from employees.


3.-The best professionals.

With async communication, a company can hire the best professionals, no matter what time zone they are in. They are not attached to availability.


4.- Goodbye almost every Zoom meeting.

It was too intense. We have had enough. Online meetings are not as effective as an email, they cause fatigue, they interrupt important work and, basically, they use employees’ time like it’s free.


5.- Good is better than fast.

Taking your time to respond leads to a better, more thoughtful, conscientious, researched answer, which translates into a collective benefit for the team.
